Making Games that Make Money
If You Are Making Good Games that Many People Know About, You Are Making Games that Make Money… One Way or Other.
According to Google, the word game is searched… 200 000 000 times a month. By making a games website the right way (some basic SEO), you can get many of those gamers to try your games.
I used to get people to play my games with PPC (Pay per Click advertising. That was a couple years ago. I could get new players for 1c each.
Things have changed. PPC has become so competitive that the 1c traffic, provided it is still possible to get it, comes from junk content websites. Good traffic from PPC now costs more (how much exactly today I couldn’t say, but enough to make decent returns on a $20 game pretty hard to achieve).
Peregrine’s Song used to be shareware, but this PPC revolution sort of killed my business model. This is why Making Video Games has long remained… rather inactive, until summer 2009.
I used to sell an ebook here explaining how to create games, and sell them. Peachy! But with my business model down, so went the ebook.
Then I found that while paying for traffic and “turning a profit” didn’t work anymore, I steadily became more familiar with… Free traffic. The kind that comes from search engines (organic queries).
Mostly by accident! I had always thought search engines were unreliable. But for the game market, where you cannot expect to sell games for much more than $20, search engines have become one of the remaining option.
Peregrine’s Song will remain freeware, but there will be other projects now that I’ve decided to give it another go.
Don’t miss my new indie business plan.
